Hiking around Filzmoos

There is a wide range of hiking possibilities in our area. In Filzmoos alone there are over 200 km of hiking and climbing routes to entice you.

HIKING SUGGESTIONS

(The walking times are approximations. The first figure is the time needed to reach the destination, the second is the duration of the round journey, that is; start to destination then back to the start.)

Round journey Neuberg

Journey: None
Walking Time: --- / 45 min.
Altitude: 50 m
Classification:
easy

Cross the stream behind the hotel. On the other side of the stream go in the direction of the Bischofsmütze mountain past the Schwaigalm lift to the crossroads at the old sawmill. Afterwards back to the Alpenhof using the local road. Partly forest path, partly hard road.

Private road Richlegg

Journey: None
Walking Time: 30 min. / 50 min.
Altituder: 100 m
Classification: easy

Cross the stream behind the hotel. On the other side of the stream go in the direction of the Bischofsmütze mountain past the Schwaigalm lift to the crossroads at the old sawmill. From the crossroads go in the direction of Schober - Letten. Beyond the Lettenhof, a path leads through the trench to Neubergerhof. From there you take the main road to the Alpenhof.

Private road Buschberg

Journey: None
Walking Time: 50 min. / 1,5 h
Altitude: 300 m
Classification: easy

Cross the stream behind the hotel. On the other side of the stream go south to the road. There, cross the road and follow the private road Richlegg right to the end which is the farm of the Hartl family (not a snack bar!). From this path, you have a lovely view over Neuberg. Back via the same route.

Filzmoos - via the road to Übermoos

Journey: None
Walking Time: 1 h / ---
Altitude: 100 m
Classification: easy

Go up the hill behind the garages. After approx. 300 m just before the "Zwiesler-Hof", there’s a right turn to the higher lying farmhouses (not snack bars!). The upper farm "Buschberg" is where our mother lives.

Filzmoos - via Marcheggsattel

Journey: None
Walking time: 2,5 h / ---
Altitude: 200 m
Classification: medium

A lovely hiking trail and the shortest possible route to Filzmoos on foot. The route can sometimes be a bit wet.

Filzmoos - via Schwarze Lacke

Journey: None
Walking Time: 2 h (to Filzmoos)
Altitude: 50 m
Classification: medium

This path to Filzmoos leads north over the Marcheggsattel to Filzmoos. Medium gradient.

Gsengalm

Journey: None
Walking Time: 1 h / 2 h
Altitude: 150 m
Classification: easy

This legendary upland moor between Neuberg and Filzmoos is a romantic hiking destination. Afterwards you can go back to Neuberg or go in the direction of Filzmoos itself. A round tour – Alpenhof via Schwarze Lacke to Filzmoos – back via Güterweg Übermoos.
(Total approx. 4 hours walking time.)

Hofalm - via Marcheggsattel

Journey: None
Walking Time: 2,5 h / ---
Altitude: 300 m
Classification: medium

This Neuberg “Jausenstation” snack point can be easily reached from our hotel by an easy forest path. A possible way back is then the path via the Perlmaisgut – Nestlergut to Neuberg. This is the destination of the weekly breakfast hike!

Hofalm – starting at Filzmoos

Journey: 10 min.
Walking Time: 1,5 h / 3 h
Altitude: 250 m
Classification: easy

Hike via the Marcheggsattel to the Hofalmen. One of the possibilities to hike this destination from Alpenhof directly.

Hofpürglhütte

Journey: None
Walking Time: 3 h / 5 h
Altitude: 700 m
Classification: medium

Hike from Filzmoos via the Wallehen-Gut along the paths to the Hofalm. If you want to hike a round tour, go via the old Holfalm path “alten Hofalmweg” back to Filzmoos.

Roßbrand

Journey: None
Walking Time: 3 h / 5 h
Altitude: 700 m
Classification: medium

Starting at Neuberg, you arrive via the Neuberg-Sulkaralm at the hut “Hofpürglhütte”. This hut at the foot of the Bischofsmütze mountain is a worthwhile destination. Going back is via the Aualm - Marcheggsattel - Neuberg to Alpenhof.  An alternative route to the Hofpürglhütte leads from the Hofalm - Aualm - Hofpürglhütte then back again to the Hofalm. Walking time of this route is approx. 3 hours - journey 20 min. along the Hofalm toll road.

Gerzkopf

Journey: None
Walking Time: 3 h / 5 h
Altitude: 700 m
Classification: medium

Starting at the hotel along the route Richlegg-Hof - Grubalm - Stiertaferl (or Dachbrunn-Sattel) – to the hut Radstädter Hütte or Rossbrand. A very lovely mountain vantage point with a wonderful view across the mountain range. Going back is along the route Karalm - Krahlehenhof - Neuberg to the Alpenhof.  An alternative route to the Rossbrand leads from Filzmoos via the Moosalm up to the top. Coming back, you can take the Dr. März-Weg also approx. 5 h. walking time.

Sulzkaralm/Mahdalm

Journey: None
Walking Time: 2,5 h / 4 h
Altitude: 550 m
Classification: medium

Our local mountain on the west side of the hotel. A very lovely mountain vantage point without, however, any mountain taverns. Accessible via the Gsengwinkl and the Nestlerhof - Perlmais. No permanently staffed mountain taverns – the Schäferhütte is only sporadically open to guests.

Sulzenalm

Journey: 10 min.
Walking Time: 1,5 h / 4 h
Altitude: 700 m
Classification: medium

These mountain pastures are accessible at the end of the Neuberg valley via Neuberg - Arzbergalm - Sulzkaralm followed by Mahdalm. The way back is via the Langeggsattel or for an alternative route, via the Lettenhof.

The Sulzenalm is, starting from Filzmoos or Hofalm, a lovely destination at the foot of the Rettensteins – very close to our mountains. Possible is the following round route: Filzmoos - Sulzenalm - Hofalm - Filzmoos. This would be about 4 h. walking time.

Jausenstation Schnitzberg

Journey: 15 min.
Walking Time: 45 min. / 1,5 h
Altitude: 200 m
Classification: easy

This cosy Jausenstation snack bar in Hachau is a worthwhile hiking destination as a round route from Hauchau. An extension of the route could be
Hachau - Schnitzberg - Bachlalm - Weitenhausalm - Hachau. Walking time approx. 4 h.

Bachlalm

Journey: 15 min.
Walking Time: 1, 5 h / 3 h
Altitude: 500 m
Classification: medium

The Bachlalm on the eastern side of the Rettenstein is a very well-known mountain pasture. (With a little luck you can get a look at the groundhogs). You can walk it starting from the Dachsteinruhe from Filzmoos via the Weitenhausalm or the Filzwiese or via Hachau.

Sonnenalm

Journey: 30 min.
Walking Time: 1 h / 2 h
Altitude: 100 m
Classification: easy

This hiking destination is extra special due to its cosy atmosphere and “Gerhard- the singing innkeeper”. A lovely path leads you to the Sonnenalm (turn-off  No. 705) from the car park “Loipenparkplatz”. Suited for prams.

Another possibility is the round way from the car park behind the “Auwirt” via the Ochsenalm to the Sonnenalm. For the route back you carry on to Ramsau and go back to the car park. Total walking time of this round route is approx. 4 hours.

Silberkarklamm

Journey: 30 min.
Walking Time: 1, 5 h / 3 h
Altitude: 500 m
Classification: medium

This tour to the neighbouring Ramsau takes you up the romantic Silberkarklamm.

Südwandhütte

Journey: 30 min.
Walking Time: 1 h / 2 h
Altitude: 300 m
Classification: medium

At the foot of the Dachstein south face. Start from the Türlwandhütte hut (toll road on the Dachstein). It can be hiked via various routes. In the Dachstein areas there are also a number of climbing routes.

Tappenkarsee

Journey: 45 min.
Walking Time: 2,5 h / 4 h
Altitude: 700 m
Classification: medium to difficult

The Tappenkarsee lake at the top of the Kleinarl valley is one of the loveliest mountain lakes in the area.

Durchs Perner-Tor

Journey: 15 min.
Walking Time: 3 h / 6 h
Altitude: 1.000 m
Classification: medium to difficult

A high alpine tour – recommended only for experienced mountain hikers. Starting from the Bachalm, through the tor to the Südwandhütte hut. The route back is via the Marsteinboden to Bachlalm.

Übern Rettenstein

Journey: 15 min.
Walking Time: 3 h / 6 h
Altitude: 1.000 m
Classification: difficult

A high alpine tour – recommended only for experienced mountain hikers as it is bordering on mountain climbing.

This is only a small selection of all the possible routes. Many other tours, also climbing tours into the Bischofsmützen and Dachstein massif are possible. For more demanding tours our partner, "Filzmoos Aktiv" is at your service.
